YOUTH 2 INDEPENDENCE
The project sees the partial redevelopment of an underused carparking structure on a site facing onto Campbell Street Hobart, to provide accommodation for youths, complimented with spaces for Community Hub support, social activities and life-long learning opportunities
The new architecture engages with its urban context at once taking it place in the street wall, while at the same time a stepped/eroded form, veil of perforated screen render the project size ambiguous.
Layering of space, form, and tectonics allows a mediation between the private and public aspects of the project, providing safe independent accommodation while fostering cohesion and belonging. This is most present on the stepped roof tops spaces (including productive gardens, social spaces and a gym with outdoor basketball half court) that act as both refuge and participate in the city.
TAUT has collaborated with Liminal Architecture in delivering Campbell Street from Design Development phase through Tender. Liminal and TAUT shared documentation responsibility, respectively spliting interiors and base building.
